DEO VINDICE, pages 6 and 7

A small preview of the 25-page comic I drew mostly in November. The text is still being added to the first half and the second half, well...it's not finished being inked. But it's pretty, right?

Inherent Vice

The guest critter decided this was my strongest piece in Concepts this semester. I'm not disagreeing, but...it's also the first one I did. sigh.

Miss Rebecca does Summer Camp

I've worked at an art summer camp over the summer for a past few years as a teacher/counselor. Featured in the article (linked) below are a few of the projects I did with my classes. The age group was 5 to 7 years olds, and we drew giant abstract murals, flowers, and spaceships! Jackson Polluck and Georgia O'Keefe, eat yor heart out.

The Space Project, left, and The Colorful Project gave students the chance to work in large formats. (Photo by Katie Deits)

Aren't they just fab?? I'm so proud of my students!
(The cardboard trees were part of the same session but for a different teacher, my darling Miss Kate <3)>

"Children are often limited in the size of their artwork, but the camp gave kids the opportunity to work in large formats...'Instructor Rebecca Mock put paper on the floor,' Rushforth said, 'and the students painted it just as Jackson Pollock did. Then each student made his or her own spaceship that they colored, cut out and suspended out from the painting with wire.'"

Stuff Happens in My Life

GUESS WHAT. If you google my name, you come up with an Ebay page with my banner on it, advertising the paintings of some other Rebecca Mock! This guy stole my banner!

I will post new works after I scan some things.

The Comics page on my website is up! Some comics are missing, still in need of good scans. Partake!

Website

The new layout of my website was pulled together this morning (long overdue!). It's very simple, no frills. Soon I will have all my comics and art up there. Take a look, let me know what you think of the background and the little titlebar.

Clone - Finished Cover

I finished my second commission/experiment with PaintTool Sai. I was lazy when it came to rendering the mirror, could have been better. But it has been a long, emotionally stressful week and I just wanted to be done with it. Overall, I'm happy with the outcome. And so was my client. :)

Gargantua Comic

For some reason I never posted this? Weird?
Oh but BTW this comic was part of the Gargantua publication made by Alain Corbel's sequential arts class and was sold at a comics convention in France. They were also displayed as part of a gallery featuring our school's comics! I am so excited about this.

Jackie - Finished!

I finished him! I also finished the secret project. One commission left! Oh, but right after I finished this one I got another commission. Fingers crossed on me making enough money for Japan! ><

I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. I tried very hard to make it look like something that might, in some strange universe, be passable as a real book cover. Hopefully my next piece won't be as painful. I started over a couple of times (partly because I was learning a new program, but really because I'm bad at digital painting). I did this entirely with PaintTool Sai, a program like PS--but free, lean and REALLY fun! My PS died on me, so. Yay open-source programming!

I am kind of bummed that I can't spend as much time on personal projects this summer...Between teaching and these jobs, I'm drained. :P

Oh shoot, what am I gonna do for Illustrated Book class? I need a story. I have a feeling the answer is right in front of me. I need to root through my old books. All of my favorites were those nineteenth-century classics with young heroines. Anne of Green Gables, Mary Lennox, Laura Ingalls. Maybe?

Works in Progress

The cover of a friend's book, about a detective who deals with the arcane and otherworldly.
The cover of my friend's comic, "Clone" about a girl who discovers that she's the clone of a supervillainess with super strength.

I've been working on a few different things this summer, including a secret project for a toy designer, which I can't post :( but other than that, I've got two illustrations going. Here are the sketches for them. I'll be inking and coloring each of them in a different way over the course of the summer. Hopefully I can finish them soon, I have some other projects I want to start!!

Also: working on getting the comics up online, and watching PR and Leverage.

Birthday Cards are Super Fun

This is the birthday card that I made for my friend *Andrea, whose birthday is coming up. She loves rainbows, stars, and flowers. I have a book of Charlie Chaplain stills, and a few bags full of scraps, stickers and doo-dads. The little bar by our kitchen (I don't have a desk at home) is covered with paint, glue, tape, scraps, etc., after a fun day working on this.
When I make birthday cards, I feel like I'm doing something worthwhile. I feel free. I hope she likes my card as much as I do. :)

The Four Evangelists

A description of four beasts that carry the throne of God during the apocalypse appears in both Christian and Islamic texts. One prophet describes beings that have four heads; the eagle, boar, lion, and man. The Four Evangelists will appear encircling the Throne of Heaven.
